Brow Tint Aftercare: What to Do in the First 48 Hours

We’ve seen how fast brows can go sideways when you try to DIY. One of our clients came in after shaving and left feeling “much prettier, ” which is exactly why we’re big on simple rules that protect your brow work. For your eyebrow tint, the number one aftercare rule is this: keep your brows dry and hands-off for the first 24 to 48 hours. That setting window is when you’ll get the best, most even brow color.
Your brow tint’s first 24 to 48 hours: the “don’t mess with it” window
Right after your Brow Tint, we generally recommend treating your brows like fresh hair color. Leave them alone so the tint has time to settle into the brow hairs.
- Keep them dry: Skip splashing water on the brow area, and don’t “quick rinse” them in the shower.
- Avoid steam and heat: Hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, and super-steamy baths can fade tint early. Keep your showers lukewarm if you can.
- Pause heavy sweating: Hard workouts, hot yoga, long runs, and anything that soaks the brow area should wait 48 to 72 hours when possible.
- No rubbing or picking: If you’re used to touching your brows while thinking, this is your reminder. Hands off.
- Be careful with skincare: Keep cleansers and moisturizers off the brows for that first day or two, especially anything oily.
Quick Pittsburgh reality check: Pool days, late-summer sun, and that humid heat can fade brow tint faster than you’d think. If you’re spending time outside, keep the brow area protected and avoid rubbing on sunscreen oils near the hairs.
Days 3 to 7: keep your brow color even, not patchy
Once you’re past the first 48 hours, most people feel like they can go back to normal. This is where we see early fading happen. The biggest issue is usually product choice, plus habits like scrubbing the brow area or exfoliating too close to the hairs.
What we want you to avoid for one week
- Exfoliants near the brows: scrubs, peels, retinoids, and acids can speed up fading if they creep into the brow hairs.
- Oily skincare on the brow hairs: oils break down tint pigments. Keep them off the brows for 7 to 10 days.
- Chlorine and long swims: If you’re in a pool, rinse around the brow area after and avoid rubbing.
- Over-correcting at home: We know the temptation. But shaving, over-plucking, or trimming while you’re getting used to the new color often creates more work later. We’ve fixed plenty of “I tried to shave them” situations, and you’ll always get a cleaner result when we do the shaping with you.
And if you’re in Pittsburgh when the weather flips cold, dryness can make you want to scrub or over-moisturize. Keep it gentle. A little patience keeps the tint looking smooth instead of uneven.
Simple products and habits that make brow tint last longer
Our Brow Tint appointment is quick, about 30 minutes, and it’s meant to be low-maintenance. The aftercare doesn’t need a 12-step routine. It needs consistency.
Stick to water-based cleansing around the brows
Use a gentle, water-based cleanser and keep your pressure light when you wash your face. Pat dry. Don’t scrub the brow hairs with a towel.
Use a clean spoolie, not your fingertips
Brush brows into place with a clean spoolie, especially if you’re heading out to Carnegie downtown or Mt. Lebanon’s Washington Road and want them to look polished without makeup. This keeps the shape neat without rubbing product into the hairs.
When to call us in Greentree, and when it’s just normal fading
Brow tint is semi-permanent, so it will fade. How fast depends on your skin type, skincare habits, and how much heat, sweat, and sun your brows see. If you tend to be oily or you use strong skincare, your tint often fades faster.
Reach out to our team if you notice unusual irritation, if the tint fades patchy right away, or if something just looks off. We’d rather take a quick look than have you try to “fix it” at home and create a bigger problem. Our regulars stick with us for years because they trust the team and the environment, and we take that seriously.
“I have been going to this Deka Lash location for years. Even when I was living in Miami, I would fly back to get done because I trust these girls so much.”

We serve clients across Carnegie, Green Tree, Bridgeville, Mt. Lebanon, Dormont, and Crafton. And if you’re already nearby for shopping or dinner, it’s easy to stop in with questions or plan your next touch-up.
